Amid
the natural beauty of this outdoor cathedral, visitors from many lands find inspiration
and peace. The Grotto welcomes more than 200,000 visitors annually, representing
nationalities and faiths from around the world. Considered by many to be one of Oregon's
most unique visitor destinations, it offers a wide variety of opportunities for local and
international visitors to enjoy the garden grounds. In colorful native costumes, people of many ethnicities
gather at The Grotto to celebrate the annual International Freedom Day Mass. The outdoor
Mother's Day Mass draws large crowds of worshipers while thousands more come to celebrate
Holy Week and Easter at The Grotto.
Many never miss the
popular Blessing of the Animals, while others come to renew their spiritual commitment at
St. Anne's Summer Twilight Retreat, outdoor concerts or the many retreat opportunities
offered by the Spirituality Program.
Still others come simply to reflect in quiet solitude.
In addition to the celebration of daily Mass, The Grotto offers a special outdoor Mass (
weather permitting ) each Sunday at noon throughout the summer. A special St. Peregrine
Mass is also offered on the first Saturday of each month for those suffering from cancer,
AIDS, serious illness or incurable disease. |
