Christmas at The Grotto 2020

The Grotto’s Christmas celebration will be different this year.

Due to the stay at home mandate issued by the state and county on Friday, Nov. 13, The Grotto announces the following changes to our Christmas schedule.

The Grotto Gift Shop will remain OPEN for Christmas shopping, following strict guidelines. They are also available for curbside pick-up. Stay tuned for an enhance page of items available for Christmas curbside pick-up.

Mass will be held daily, with reduced capacity. Only 25 people may attend, including all clergy, and those attending must be pre-registered.

The Chapel will close immediately after Mass each day.

The Grotto grounds and gardens will be closed through December 16. Stay tuned for information about reopening.

When we reopen

We hope to celebrate Christmas during our usual daytime hours once the mandate has lifted. Stay tuned for information about how we will celebrate Christmas week and all the days through Epiphany.

As previously announced, we will not host our usual evening lighting event (The Christmas Festival of Lights) due to Covid-19 and our concern for the health and safety of our guests, volunteers, staff and neighbors.

Lights of Hope

These special ornaments are made from lights which once shone in the darkness, bringing light and warmth to all at The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights.

May this ornament light up your heart and remind you of the promise of God’s saving light and love.

Each ornament is handmade and unique. Your support will help The Grotto keep its lights on during our closure.

Ornaments are $20 each.

Each one includes a card and comes in a box suitable for storing.

Sanctuary Lantern Tours

The lantern tours are suspended through December 16.

“Faith is not a light which scatters all our darkness, but a lamp which guides our steps in the night and suffices for the journey.” – Pope Francis

Enjoy a very special evening touring The Grotto at dusk or in darkness.

On your tour you will experience the beauty of the Via Matris at night, the lighted cultural shrines, St. Anne’s Chapel, and the spectacular nighttime view from the Meditation Chapel. You will also have an opportunity to view The Grotto and the Christus Statue in the evening light, and have time to spend in the Chapel of Mary.

Each tour will have a maximum number of eight guests, so we may maintain safe social distancing. Every guest will be given a lantern to light their way.

Tours are $25 per person. Proceeds support The Grotto. Without the Festival of Lights, we need you more than ever.
