Friday, Jan. 1

Today, we share this incredible gift from Michael Allen Harrison.

With no Christmas Festival of Lights in 2020, Michael was unable to perform at his usual time slot on closing night. Instead, he came and recorded his one-hour concert in an empty Chapel of Mary, and has given it to us to share.

The Grotto is extremely grateful for this amazing gift, and thank Michael for his decades of support. We look forward to listening to his beautiful music for many years to come.

Thursday, Dec. 31

Today, the Grotto Carolers perform Auld Lang Syne on the final night of The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights in 2016.

A string quartet from the nonprofit toRhapsody perform Sleigh Ride to celebrate the beginning of winter.

High school students Kalob Ho and Ian Song formed toRhapsody, described as “a student-led organization that aims to empower people and bring peace through music.” This past year, toRhapsody has performed classical music (outside and from a distance) at nursing homes, locations they say are in desperate need of entertainment during Covid-19.

Wednesday, Dec. 30

Today, the Grotto Carolers perform Caroling, Caroling and Carol of the Bells at the Christmas Festival of Lights in 2016.

The University of the Philippines Concert Chorus has traveled to The Grotto to perform at the Christmas Festival of Lights several times over the years.

Local composer Jesse Molina wrote this song while sitting in The Grotto’s Meditation Chapel during the summer of 2020. Performing Josana, here are Jesse Molina on keyboards, Jan Shannon – alto, and Chloe Payne – soprano.

Today, enjoy the beloved melody of the Advent season, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, played on the celtic harp Maureen Briare.

Today, the Mountain View High School choir performs an African Noel Carol at the Christmas Festival of Lights.

Saturday, Dec. 19

Today’s installment is a little bit different as it was not recorded at The Grotto. However, it is so special we want to share it with you.

The Canby High School Cantalinas have been performing at The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights for decades. In this unique year, where performing was not possible, they recorded Virtual Carols 2020 for everyone to enjoy.

Monday, Dec. 14

Today’s entry is a little different. In 2016, singer Peter Hollens recorded a large portion of his music video December Song after hours at The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights.

We are sharing a link to the entire video with you today. Please note the first few minutes of the video are recorded elsewhere, but you won’t want to miss what happens at the 1:55 mark.

Saturday, Dec. 12

Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Singing Sisters of The Grotto – Sr. Carolina Martinez, Sr. Monica Zermeno, Sr. Celia Hernandez Ortiz and Sr. Siria Bernal – sing in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe on her feast day.

The Sisters who minister at The Grotto are from a community of religious sisters, the Oblates of Saint Martha, based in Saltillo, Mexico.

Las Hermanas Cantantes de La Gruta cantan en honor a Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe.

Friday, Dec. 11

Today, The Grotto Carolers perform Mary’s Boy Child at the Christmas Festival of Lights.

Thursday, Dec. 10

Today, the Mt. View High School Choir from Vancouver, Washington, performs the Hallelujah Chorus.

Wednesday, Dec. 9

Today, one of the quartets which make up The Grotto Carolers perform The First Noel – I Saw a Star Medley.

Tuesday, Dec. 8

Today, The Grotto Carolers perform for Advent – Prepare the Way, O Zion – at The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights.

This song has been a staple in The Grotto Carolers repertoire for many years. The angel sing “Prepare the Way, O Zion! Hear the News, He Comes!” The song builds toward the excitement of Christmas and the coming of Emmanuel.

Monday, Dec. 7

Today, The Singing Sisters of The Grotto – Sr. Carolina Martinez, Sr. Monica Zermeno, Sr. Celia Hernandez Ortiz and Sr. Siria Bernal – sing in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.The Sisters who minister at The Grotto are from a community of religious sisters, the Oblates of Saint Martha, based in Saltillo, Mexico.

Today, we feature Mt. View High School Choir from Vancouver, Washington, performing Angels We Have Heard on High from the 2019 Christmas Festival of Lights.

Thursday, Dec. 3

Local singer Haley Johnsen performs O Holy Night. This 2017 recording was part of her Twelve Days of Christmas series.

Wednesday, Dec. 2

The Grotto Carolers perform O Little Town of Bethlehem and Hark the Herald Angels Sing at the Christmas Festival of Lights.

Tuesday, Dec. 1

Today, Heart of the Valley Children’t Choir from Corvallis, Oregon, perform All Through the Still Silent Night at The Grotto’s 2018 Christmas Festival of Lights.

Monday, Nov. 30

Today, members of the Bach Cantata Choir perform A Child is Born in Bethlehem, a traditional Danish Christmas Carol.
